Tye Dye

                                                       First Step of Art Club Shirts!

This year I am having two art clubs and as our first project we are going to make Art Club Shirts! 

So this week we prepared our shirts and tye dyed!  

The students watched youtube videos on different ways to rubber band the shirts and then we went outside to tye dye!  

The students got beautiful results- so bright and vibrant!  In the next few weeks we will decide what we want the shirts to say and prepare to paint them!

Monster Mania!!!

This past week, I introduced Oregon artist James DeRosso to my students.  They all had something to say about his silly monster sculptures!    

             

Every grade will be making a variation of Monsters, but 4th and 5th Graders will be making monsters out of clay just like James DeRosso!  I am lucky enough to have a Kiln at my school and now that I have gotten used to it over the past year, I am ready to put it to a lot of use!  

This class watched the video of James DeRosso and then watched as I demonstrated how to make a Pinch Pot.  I showed them how we are going to take the pot, turn it on its side and the opening becomes the mouth!

 Students attached monster teeth, eyeballs, horns etc to their heads.  I have them put them on a board by the color table they sit at so I can try and keep them organized for a quick return!

Zentangle Hands

 Zentangles 

Zentangles seem to be all the rage right now so I decided to jump on the band wagon and try them out for our back to school project! This site really helped me understand what they were all about! https://www.zentangle.com/zentangle-method

 I started off by showing the Students an Activ Board Presentation, showed them some examples and then put them to work!  

Back to School Fun!

Starting my second year in my art room was a lot of fun!  I was able to really focus on how to arrange the room for the best use of space and to make moving around the room as easy as possible!  As  you art teachers out there know, figuring out how to organize all those supplies is half the battle.

Here are some pictures of my room all ready for the first day!  My room does not have much wall space but it has a ton of storage space (believe me I am not complaining!)  So all of my visuals are on bulletin board paper and hanging on  the front of the cabinets.

Here I have our Class guidelines "Ways to be A Great Artists"  These aren't necessarily our rules but ways we want to act in order to have a great art class and of course make great art!  Next to that is our Noise Meter- This I really hope to make a point of using a little more this year!  I found this on Pinterest once upon a time and love the idea!  Each level of noise is associated with a painting.  0 Being the Mona Lisa and 5 being the Scream.  The kids seem to really catch onto this!  To the right I have some informative boards for the students.  Below are the elements of art and principles of design displays.  I just redid them this summer and like how to word demonstrates the element and principle.  
                                    

This is the students main board!  At the end of each class, everyone waits with big anticipation to see if they get their "Clip up" for the day.  Each clothespin has the class names on them- If they have a great art class... It gets clipped up a crayon.  The clips can also stay where they are or move down depending on behavior.  When a class gets to 10, they get to choose their own art project!  This is so much fun for all of us!  They come up with the best ideas and these projects usually end up being my favorite of the year!  We have done anything from airplanes to splatter paint to group sculptures.  

Snow Birds

I read the book Snow Birds to the students.  We then created birch trees out of music sheets since these are to help decorate for the winter concert.  Bubble wrap and Q-tips were used to create some snowy texture and the students created watercolor resists to cut out their bird shapes!
