Sandwich Day!

I love Holidays!  Usually we celebrate the typical holidays by making a themed art lesson, But today I decided to celebrate the little publicized holiday known as National Sandwich  Day.  National Sandwich Day is celebrated each year on November 3rd.

The Sandwich
Students were given a rectangle piece of oaktag, A yellow Triangle for cheese, Green Tissue paper for Lettuce, A red oval for the tomato, white string for onions and either pink paper for ham or brown paper for a burger.  The students were to make their sandwich on the oak tag.   I was given some old seat cushions which ended up being perfect for our crust.

The Plate
Students were given their sandwiches and paper plates, they glued their sandwich to the paper plate and then added a snack.
This was a perfect opportunity to talk about healthy eating!   We brainstormed all different snacks that we could eat for lunch and I was very happy with the amount of fruit responses I got!  The students drew their snacks on with crayons.

The Placemat
This seemed like a great time to introduce paper weaving.  The students wove colored strips into the slits I precut.  Over Under Over Under
They glued on a napkin donated by the cafeteria and they were done!  Happy Sandwich Day!
