Check out what we have been busy making in the art room the past few months!

Paper mache piggy banks

Wow Was this cool!  Studio Art Club created paper mache piggy banks!  We used a balloon to get the shape and then taped on egg creates, bottle caps, and paper to create the animal shape.  Then, we wrapped those funky little things with paper mache strips- that's the fun, messy part!  Over the next week the paper mache dries and the balloon pops making the inside hollow and the perfect place to put money!  Students then painted their new creatures, glued on details, and then we cut the slit in the top and a hole in the bottom and there you have it- Piggy Banks!

castles and dragons!

This first grade class created dragons out of model magic and then made a castle background!  Look in their castle doors to see who lives inside!

Out of this world

This was a multi-step multi-media art project.  First graders created their space background using an watercolor resist technique- their planets were created by blending oil pastels.  Then, using model magic students created their rockets!

Batik landscapes

This 4th grade class did Batik Painting.  This is an art form that originated in Indonesia where hot wax is melted and put onto fabric and then dyed.  We took a different approach but tried to get the same effect.  This requires lots of patience and Trust!

First students draw their landscape and then outline the pencil very thickly with chalk.  Students must paint in the areas not once, not twice, but THREE times!  Once that is dry, they take black India Ink and paint over all their hard work.  Believe me this is not easy to do after spending weeks painting!  Once the ink dries, students come over to the sink area and slowly wash off the ink- this gives it a neat effect.

Finally, chalk pastel is applied to add detail and fill in some areas.

Crazy hair day

Look at these fun paintings!  Crazy straw painting done in art club.  Students put water color on their paper and used a straw to blow the paint around!  These sure make me smile!

Gum balls!

Kindergarten learned about artist Wayne Thiebaud.  He is famous for all of his pictures of desserts!

These little artists drew their gumball machines, painted them in and then used dotters to create their gumballs.  Acetate was used to give the appearance of glass.

Color wheel art

2nd grade studies the Color Wheel.  They learned how to mix colors and the set up of the color wheel.  I love reading the book Woobie Paints as we explore color theory.  Students then turned their color wheel into part of their imaginative pictures!

Aliens from Planet first Grade!

This was a really fun multi step project!  The students did a watercolor resist on the background.  The planets are made from blending oil pastels.  They then made an alien out of model magic, painted them and put plastic over them to look like a glass bubble.

YAM art shows

Congratulations to our 3 artists who were selected for the County Youth Art Month Show!  Out of these three students, 2 were chosen to move on to the State Youth Art Month Show held at the State House in Trenton!  I am so proud of all 3 of these students!

Chalk Pastel Glue Landscapes

4th Grade Focuses on Landscapes.  Each 4th Grade class used different media and techniques to create their landscapes.  This class drew their landscape on black paper and then traced over all of their pencil lines with glue.  The glue dries clear and bumpy creating a barrier for the chalk pastels.  They then blended the chalk pastels in their shapes. The students created vivid colors and stunning landscapes!

Critters

School Spirit Art Club made the Critter and put them all over the school!
E-V-A-N-S Evans School You know is the BEST!

Crayon melting

Art Club is Melting Crayons!  Each artist is coming up with an idea, doing a sketch, and then will combine melted crayon with paint to create a mixed media Masterpiece!  Check back to see our progress!

Jim dine hearts

First Grade is experimenting with Printmaking.  This class used stamps and a variety of shapes to create designs int heir hearts.  Students then used markers draw line designs around their hearts.  These hearts are inspired by Jim Dine.  Jim Dine is an American Pop Artist who uses bright colors and does a lot of hearts!  Check out some of his work below!
