Monster pots
Now that the Monsters have come out of the kiln they are ready for glazing!! This is a fun part because the students get to see how much the glazes change from when they paint it on their bisqueware to when it comes out of the kiln.
Students painted on 3 coats of glaze and waited for the results!
Ta Dah!!!! Now their monsters are shiny, bright and feel like glass!!!

Monster displays!
All of Evans School have been hard at work creating a variety of Monsters! They popped up just in time for the book fair and Halloween! Our amazing PTA turned the library into a Monster Frenzy along with the help of the art club! All of the other classes jumped on board and made monster art to help decorate the rest of the school!

Monsters in my closet!
Kindergarten read Go Away Big Green Monster and as I read, they pointed out different Geometric Shapes. We then talked about all the shapes we saw that didn't have names like those wiggly arms and the squiggly nose. Those are called Organic Shapes.

1st Grade Tissue Box Monsters
It is rare that I repeat art lessons but boy do I love these tissue box monsters! I just don't know how you can look at the without smiling! I did these a few years ago (See Here) and when I heard we were having a Monster theme for the book fair I was so excited to have a reason to do them again!
I am so thankful to all of the students, parents, and teachers for making this possible by sending in all of their tissue boxes!
The kids loved seeing their monsters "come alive" The transformation process from seeing the tissue box turn into a little creature was really fun for all of us!
Ah! Monsters!

Some Second Grade Classes are making Monsters with Pop Out Mouths. So after reading When a Monster was born the class drew their monster mouth, teeth, and then painted the inside,
The mouths were then cut out and glued onto white paper. I made my first Teachers Pay Teachers purchase and it has been a huge hit! Check it out here: Monster Game! It is a monster making game- How Appropriate since monsters have taken over the art room! Students get a monster sheet and a die, each time they roll it correlates to a monster body part. This really helped get their imaginations going as students created a monster body around their mouth!

Look how cute these monsters came out!!!
3rd grade name monsters!
As part of the Monster Mania going on at Evans, some third grade classes are making their own personal monsters inspired by their names! We started off by Folding a Piece of paper, Writing our name large along the fold and then drawing a Contour line around our name- When we cut around that line and unfold the paper you get a funky monster shape! You should have heard the Ooos and Ahhhs going around the room as students looked at their papers and imagined the monsters they would soon create!
The students got right to work drawing lines inside their monsters. We looked at visuals to get inspiration for our monster eyes, mouths and other body parts.

The students outlined all of their pencil lines with sharpie to prepare for our watercolor resist painting next week!

Monster Mania!!!
This past week, I introduced Oregon artist James DeRosso to my students. They all had something to say about his silly monster sculptures!
This class watched the video of James DeRosso and then watched as I demonstrated how to make a Pinch Pot. I showed them how we are going to take the pot, turn it on its side and the opening becomes the mouth!
