SnowGlobes

My second grade students created snow globes filled with winter scenes.

Students traced coffee can lids to create circles on their sketch paper.  Students were required to make two different sketches of winter scenes.  They could get opinions from their classmates as to which was the better picture.  Acetate was placed over their final sketch and it was traced onto the acetate with permanent marker.  An additional coffee can lid was traced about one inch to the right of the snow scene circle.  Two lines about 1 inch apart should be drawn to connect the two circles.

Circle one is where the snow scene is painted using tempera paints.  Permanent markers could also be used especially for tiny areas.

Circle two is where the snow goes.  We used a Q-tip and white paint to make our snow.

The two circles are cut out and kept in one piece.  Circle One is glued to light blue background paper.  The tab that was made connecting the two circles allows for circle 2 to be flipped over Circle one and stapled down.  This gives a bubbled look and the appearance that it is snowing over their scene.

The students traced the shape for the bottom onto colored paper and glued it onto their paper, making sure it overlapped the snow globe circles a tiny bit.
