Picasso Monsters

Some Second Grade classes have been working on Picasso Monster Collages.  Students learned about Pablo Picasso and Cubism and then created their own Monsters inspired by Pablo Picasso.

5th grade sketchbook highlights

Fifth graders are responsible for doing a sketchbook assignment at home each month.
Here are some from the last few months that really stood out! :)

Kimmy Cantrell

Kimmy Cantrell  is an American Modern Artist based out of Georgia.  He makes really funky faces inspired by Picasso.  He was inspired by being in his high school art show and is a great reminder how an arts education program can really effect kids!

Mrs. Wassy and Mrs. Davidson's fifth graders studied the work of Kimmy Cantrell and made faces out of clay slabs.  The students were encourages to add as much texture as possible!  This week they will be adding Color!

This effect was created by using oil pastels to add and blend colors then painting black tempera paint mixed with soap all over it, letting it dry, then rinsing it off in a water bath.
We will be adding a clear glaze on top to finish it off.

Very patriotic for Veterans Day!!

Tomorrow we are celebrating Veteran's Day!  Kindergarten, some first grade classes, and studio art club worked hard the past two weeks to create some Star-Spangled Spirit Pictures to welcome our Veterans!  I look forward to posting the finished art work tomorrow!

Below are some Kindergarteners using modge podge to create a tissue paper collage.
The tissue paper collage was turned into a star and the students made some funky stripes to put in the background!

Mrs. Stoner and Mrs. Rothamel's first graders learned about the liberty bell.  They created their own below!

In Studio Art Club we did marble painting on our red white and blue collages to prepare our backgrounds for our Statue of Liberty portraits.  We looked at artists Peter Max and Dan Dunn for inspiration!
Check out this AWESOME video!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBtpgtOK30g

You can never be too old for marble painting!
Dying our newspaper Green to prepare it for our Lady Liberty Drawings

Below you can see a Lady Liberty completed!  The Studio Art kids did a fantastic job on this project!

Monster pots

Now that the Monsters have come out of the kiln they are ready for glazing!!  This is a fun part because the students get to see how much the glazes change from when they paint it on their bisqueware to when it comes out of the kiln.

Students painted on 3 coats of glaze and waited for the results!

Ta Dah!!!!  Now their monsters are shiny, bright and feel like glass!!!

Monster displays!

All of Evans School have been hard at work creating a variety of Monsters!  They popped up just in time for the book fair and Halloween!  Our amazing PTA turned the library into a Monster Frenzy along with the help of the art club!  All of the other classes jumped on board and made monster art to help decorate the rest of the school!
