It was time for The third graders to learn about Color Theory. Instead of just making a typical circular color wheel, I wanted the students to make a Color wheel that would turn into a beautiful picture. So we went with Flowers!
Color Mixing Quiz
The students were given the primary Colors (the Parent Colors) and painted three squares of paper Red, Yellow & Blue
Next the students had to mix colors. The students used their palette knives and had to mix the primary colors to make the secondary colors Violet, Orange & Green and then paint three more squares.
Ovals were drawn on the back of each square to make the petals
Once the students had all of their squares painted and petals drawn, it was time for the most important part- arranging the color wheel/flower.
If the petals were not put in the correct places, it would not make a working color wheel.
We can't forget the center of the Flower! That is where the neutral goes- Just like in a regular color wheel.
THe students then added Stems and leaves from strips of construction paper and grass out of tissue paper. The last thing added were cotton balls for clouds.
Look at the beautiful Spring Pictures the third graders made! & they are informative too!
