Animals & the Alphabet

My Prek autistic Class consists of 6 kids and has proven to be quite the challenge.  What I have learned so far is to keep them moving!!  SO what I do, is have a few projects going on at once.  THe supplies are all set up at different tables and we do one step of one project and then Move to the next table and start a new project and in the 45 minutes we will probably start 4 different projects.  For this specific class I always try to go along with what their classroom teacher is doing because they need as much reenforcement as possible.

At this time they were working on the Alphabet and Animals.

To start off I cut out all letters from the letter press machine that most schools have. Each child had a bin of letters and we went through and said what each letter was called as they glued them to their paper.  This worked on their mechanic skills such as holding and squeezing a glue bottle- it also helped them to turn their wrist and push down on the glue side of the letter onto the paper.

The Next Station focused on the Letter Z is for Z-Ebra
The students took paint rollers and rolled black paint all over a white piece of paper which eventually became their zebras.

At the next station the kids painted warm colors onto a white piece of paper.. This became their S-Sunset background

Lucky for us, We had great classroom aids assisting us!
FOr this class only, I do the cutting.  I cut zebras out from their painted black paper and the kids glued them onto their Sunset backgrounds.  Next it was time for G-Grass.  THe kids used modge podge and painted on the glue where they wanted their strips of tissue paper grass.  FOr the border, I gave the kids their scraps of black and white paper to rip into pieces and glue around the edges.

The T-Tigers were done at a third station where the kids ripped black pieces of paper and glued them in L-Lines across their orange construction paper.  I cut out the shape of the tigers and they drew on the Eyes.
